The Month of Hell
Ah, December. So starts a month of HELL. Does anyone else out there find that the holidays have become INSANE? Remember when we were kids? Christmas shopping started on the day after thanksgiving. Christmas lights and trees went up anywhere AFTER Thanksgiving. It was about being with your family and so what if dinner was burned, you still have a good time playing with your toys and laughing at Grandpa as he tried to put that bike together for you.
What happened? Why does Christmas music start playing November 1st now? Why is K-Mart open on THANKSGIVING DAY for Christmas shopping? Why are people so lazy that they leave their Christmas lights up all year round so they don't have to do it again? Why, when opening presents, no matter how much they got, kids nowadays are so much more likely to complain about the things they DIDN'T get? What happened to that simpler time?
Maybe it's me. Maybe it was just like this but I was a little kid and didn't see it? Or maybe, just maybe, our society is turning to convenience instead of creating those memories of Dad fumbling with the lights on top of the ladder, swearing out of the corner of his mouth when they got tangled. Maybe people would rather get those early bird specials on Thanksgiving Day than spend time with our families. Maybe kids need to be reminded that not everyone has as much as them.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I think we all grew up knowing a little better than this next generation seems to. Maybe it's time we start teaching them...
Anywhoos, I hope everyone out there has a happy, safe, and wonderful holiday season. Stay safe, eat lots, enjoy the time with your family and friends, because these memories you're making this year might be the only thing to hold onto next year. People come and go, so make the most of your time together....
